the risks of laser surgery are lower than those of conventional surgery, but a great deal depends on the skills of individual surgeons. 이란 문장에서 a great deal 이 주어 즉 명사로 쓰인건데 이것의 명사 뜻은 무엇인가요?
해설에는 "많은 것들" 이라고 되어 있는데 그러면 해석상 복수취급해야하니 뒤에가 depend on이 되어야 하는게 아닌지

레이저 수술의 위험은 전통적인 수술보다 낮지만, 많은 부분은 개별 외과의사의 능력에 의존한다
여기서 "a great deal" 은 많은 부분, 많은 것들이라고 해석하며 단수주어로 왔습니다.
해석은 복수처럼 보이지만 deal 을 단수취급합니다.
그래서 depend 일반동사 뒤에 's'를 붙여 단수동사를 만들어준겁니다. ^^
